Ken Williams and daughter Gwyn's mugs

This is a photo of Ken Williams' mug on a hillside of bricks that will be repurposed into new bricks. It had snowed and I had accumulated about an inch of clay on the bottom of my shoes walking around the brick company yard.

I was so lucky to be able to attend guest artist class featuring Ken Williams during February, 2020, (arranged by Vicky Hansen through CSU-Pueblo). Ken is a ceramic artist and public artist. He is a very generous artist. He works with his family. He has a studio near the Summit Brick Company. He has a gallery as well and the students were able to go there. I purchased a mug made by Ken and one by Gwyn, one of Ken and Judith's 4 daughters (Audrey, Allison, Gwyn and Brooke.)

I really like Ken's mug, it holds a lot of coffee, it is light. I love they way he will put a band of colored slip and then carve through it. The handle is comfortable and artistic. He talked about the process of design, and collaboration. He talked about concepts that Judith and he have discussed: the importance of negative space and to start the designing process with a line and go from there.

This is a photo of Gwyn's mug taken outside the studio located in the Summit Brick Company complex. It is more compact. I really like the texture and carving design. The handle is comfortable and robust. You can see why I snagged these mugs.
